The Vanuatu Law Reform Commission (VLRC) is pleased to highlight the participation of its Principal Policy Officer, Mr. Powrie Vire, in the ongoing Twinning and Placement Programme with the Solomon Islands Law Reform Commission (SILRC) in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
Mr. Vire is currently undertaking a one-month professional placement with the SILRC as part of the continuing partnership between the two law reform agencies.
During his placement, Mr. Vire will be working closely with the SILRC, gaining practical experience and insights into various aspects of the law reform process, including stakeholder consultation, policy development, and report writing. The placement also provides an opportunity for Mr. Vire to share the VLRC's experiences and approaches to law reform, while promoting knowledge exchange and strengthening institutional capacity and collaboration between the two commissions.
The Secretary of the Vanuatu Law Reform Commission, Mr. Lawson J. Samuel, said the Twinning and Placement Programme continues to provide valuable opportunities for professional and institutional development for both agencies.
"Through these exchanges, our officers gain practical skills, broaden their perspectives, and strengthen the networks that are essential to advancing quality law reform at both the national and regional levels. The VLRC highly values this partnership and looks forward to ensuring its continuity for the benefit of both organisations and the communities we serve," Mr. Samuel said.
As Mr. Vire continues his placement in Honiara, the VLRC would like to acknowledge the SILRC for its continued collaboration and hospitality towards its officers. The Commission also extends its appreciation to the Vanuatu Australia Policing and Justice Program (VAPJP) for its ongoing financial and technical support in promoting regional partnerships that strengthen justice sector institutions across the Pacific.
Meanwhile, Mr. Vire's placement commenced earlier this month and is expected to conclude at the end of August. This marks the third exchange under the programme, with the first exchange having commenced in 2025.
